As Mary J. Blige gears up for her highly anticipated Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show, the legendary vocalist promises the concert of a lifetime.
The “No More Drama” star will be joining Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and Kendrick Lamar for a multi-coastal hip-hop experience like none other. The singer says the show will give viewers a taste of the genre’s rich diversity.
“This is why it’s going to be so major because this is what the Super Bowl is showing to people: It’s not just one thing. Hip-hop is everywhere,” Blige explained during her interview with Elle Magazine for their February 2022 issue.
The moment will be particularly special since Dre will be joining Blige as she performs her hit record “Family Affair,” which is produced by him.
The last time that Blige graced the Super Bowl Halftime Show with her presence was in 2001 when she performed alongside *NSYNC, Aerosmith, Britney Spears, and Nelly. However, for this monumental show, Blige says she will be “front and center” in all her “glory and greatness and swagger.”
Blige, who recently celebrated her 51st birthday, spoke about the motivation behind the title of her forthcoming album, “Good Morning Gorgeous,” which is a mantra she used to uplift herself during her lowest moments.
“I had to pay myself the highest compliments, even if I didn’t believe it, just so I could build myself up,” she explained.
