Super Bowl halftime performer Mary J. Blige will be taking the stage alongside music greats Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, and Eminem this weekend. And even though she has decades of hits, it was recently reported that she’d be performing only one song during the show.
However, a source close to Baller Alert confirmed that the “Be Without You” singer will be performing more than one of her hit songs at SB LVI.
When the news broke that Blige would be a part of the Super Bowl LVI’s all-star lineup, fans were ready to sing along to the popular songs from the artist’s extensive 30-year repertoire. However, shortly after the lineup announcement, Mary J shared she could only perform one song from her list of hit records.
In an interview with Elle, Blige spoke about her approach to the halftime show and what it means for music as a whole. According to Elle, the Queen of Hip Hop Soul also revealed that since she’ll be forced to perform just one song during the halftime show, and was leaning towards her 2001 smash hit “Family Affair.” The song was produced by Dr. Dre and became Mary J’s first and only No.1 hit single on the Billboard Hot 100.
Well, it looks like things have changed and we’re getting more than one hit so Mary J fans, get your voices ready because Ms. Blige is coming in hot. It has not yet been confirmed what songs she’ll be performing, but we know it’s coming with her famous two-step.
Blige will be the only woman on stage as she’ll be giving her countless fans everything they want in her performance. She discussed how she’s feeling about the halftime show in an interview on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. She also spoke about the first time she appeared in a Super Bowl halftime show in 2001.
“It’s the world that’s gonna be watching, but I think I’ll be alright,” she said about the highly anticipated performance.
