A Hagerstown, Maryland man was sent to the grocery store for a pre-cooked chicken and ended up a $100,000 lottery winner.
“My wife sent me in to get pre-cooked chicken for dinner,” the man told Maryland Lottery officials.
He picked up the chicken, and on the way out of the store, he stopped at the self-service lottery vending machine. He purchased a $20 Mega Millions ticket and a $10 Monopoly X50 scratch-off.
After dinner, he scratched off the ticket and knew he had won but wasn’t sure how much. He used the Maryland Lottery app on his phone to scan the ticket to be sure.
“He let out a line of words that our kids are not used to hearing,” according to his wife. “They thought he was upset.”
They soon realized what had happened and began to celebrate. The family claimed their prize on Jan. 28. The family intends on using the winnings to pay down some of their debt, make needed home repairs, take a vacation, and possibly purchase a new TV.
