Maryland Mother & Daughter Dismember, Grill Grandmother After Argument

In a horrifying tale reminiscent of a horror movie, a mother and daughter duo from Maryland stand accused of the gruesome act of dismembering and cooking their own grandmother.

The shocking crime came to light on June 2nd, 2023, when police responded to a welfare check at a residence on Hill Road in Landover.  Concerned individuals had reported that 71-year-old Margaret Craig had not been heard from in several days.  Upon arrival, authorities were granted permission by 44-year-old Candace Craig to search the premises for her mother.

As police entered the basement, they were immediately met with a putrid odor that filled the air.  Disturbingly, they soon stumbled upon open trash bags containing brain matter and blood, as well as evidence of blood splattered across the ceiling.  Additional items present in the area included cleaning materials, a knife, and a chainsaw cover.

During questioning, Candace’s 19-year-old daughter, Salia Hardy, confessed to a shocking sequence of events.  Allegedly, an argument had erupted between Candace and Margaret the previous month, stemming from accusations of unauthorized credit card use.  As tensions escalated, Margaret threatened to report Candace to the police.  Tragically, on May 23rd, Hardy discovered her deceased grandmother’s body hidden inside a blue plastic container in her bedroom.  It was then that Candace coerced her daughter into assisting with the gruesome act of dismembering the body using a chainsaw.

Following the macabre dismemberment, the pair proceeded to burn portions of Margaret’s remains on the family’s grill and in a bonfire. However, traces of the grandmother’s rotting body were discovered within the confines of their home. DNA analysis was conducted to confirm the identity of the remains.

Candace has since been charged with first and second-degree murder, while Hardy faces charges of being an accessory after the fact. Both individuals are currently being held without bond as the investigation continues.
