Masked members of the white supremacist group Patriot Front marched through the streets of Philadelphia and Washington D.C. on Saturday night. Members chanted “life, liberty, and victory,” while others carried banners that said, “reclaim America.”
Dozens of members marched in front of Philadelphia City Hall. Several of the demonstrators clashed with bystanders.
On the same day as the Philadelphia march, more than a hundred white supremacists marched in Washington D.C. along National Mall. Bystanders in Washington taunted the marchers.
Photos published by the Philadelphia Inquirer show Patriot Front members arguing with bystanders who came to confront them. The photographs also show police detaining members of the group, all wearing the same matching outfits. They showed up in khaki pants, navy blue shirts and wore masks to cover their faces.
Patriot Front is based out of Texas and is associated with the alt-right movement, according to Newsweek. They were the organizers behind the deadly “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017.
The same group is suspected of vandalizing the memorial statue of George Floyd that was unveiled last month. The statue was covered in racist graffiti. The phrase “Patriot Front” was painted over the inscription. It’s suspected they are also behind the vandalism of other Floyd statues, including one in New Jersey.
