Massachusetts Woman Sues Dunkin’ Donuts After Two Employees Allegedly Spill ‘Scalding’ Hot Coffee on Her and Then Laughed

A Massachusetts woman is suing Dunkin’ Donuts after saying she was burned by “scalding” hot coffee.

Earlier this month, Angela Barbosa filed a lawsuit in Plymouth Superior Court against Dunkin Donuts over an incident at a Dunkin’ location in Brockton, Massachusetts. The woman claims two workers there spilled burning hot coffee on her and then laughed and made jokes at her expense in the midst of the spill.

According to CBS News, the incident happened in June 2020 when Barbosa pulled up into the Dunkin’ drive-thru with her sister, who was driving. They ordered three hot coffees.

In the legal document, the woman says the tops of the coffees weren’t properly on, and the cups themselves weren’t secured in the tray. When the employee passed them to Barbosa’s sister, the drinks came loose and toppled over onto Barbosa, the lawsuit claims. Her legs and buttocks ended up being burned.

“Screaming in pain, the Plaintiff was forced to rip off her leggings in the parking lot, exposing herself in full view of the Dunkin’ Donuts employees,” the woman’s legal team states. “Seeing this, the employees were pointing, laughing, and mocking the plaintiff.”

The woman says she now has permanent scars and nerve damage that was caused by the scorching hot coffee. “The defendants’ actions were extreme and outrageous, beyond all possible bounds of decency and utterly intolerable in a civilized community,” the lawsuit continues. Barbosa is suing for negligence and emotional distress, CBS News reports.
