Mayor LaToya Cantrell made the announcement at a press conference on Friday, marking the beginning of a new initiative aimed at enhancing the city’s entertainment and cultural landscape.
This initiative is a collaborative effort to create more opportunities in New Orleans by celebrating its rich traditions and building a platform for future success. The collaboration will bring together influential New Orleans natives to work across various creative fields, including film, television, music streaming, culinary arts, design, literary arts, preservation, and visual arts and crafts. The goal is to develop a diverse range of entertainment content that reflects the unique culture of New Orleans and drives growth in the city’s creative industries.
Mayor Cantrell began her announcement by praising Master P as a public figure who embodies the “real resiliency of this community.” She highlighted his upbringing as being raised in the streets of New Orleans and transforming his life to become a successful musical mogul, stating, “There’s no limit when you put your mind on accomplishing great things for the city of New Orleans.”
According to Mayor Cantrell, the entertainment ambassador role is more than just a measly title; it is also a forum dedicated to making fundamental changes. The main focus of this initiative is the creation of the “No Limit Platform,” which is designed to “stimulate educational and cultural opportunities for the city of New Orleans and her residents.”
The move will include classes geared towards teaching entertainment business skills, learning all aspects of the industry, and providing a pathway for the youth to become more involved. By sharing his knowledge, Master P will help equip the next generation with the tools needed to succeed, whether as artists, entrepreneurs, or producers.
“Master P has the clout to connect New Orleans to more major special events [and] opportunities at every single level,” Mayor Cantrell said. “[He] will be a force multiplier for our culture, cementing our city on the world stage.”
The rapper and music label founder, who also spoke at the press conference, expressed his thoughts on improving his hometown and confidence that the initiative would help close the disparity between rich and poor in New Orleans.
“To bridge the wealth gap, there’s a lot of things that we have to do to put money back into our culture,” he said. “We have to teach entrepreneurship, we have to teach leadership, and we have to focus on the younger people in this community… I want more for the city of New Orleans.”
