Matt Barnes has made a moving revelation about the breakdown of his family, which is partially due to him having his guard up.

On a recent episode of his podcast “All the Smoke,” Barnes opened up to author Jason Wilson about how he lost his family due to a series of events that the former baller claims to have caused. This followed accusations from his fiancée Anansa Sims that he had cheated on her multiple times.
Reflecting on his emotional struggles, Barnes shared, “I’ll be 45 next week, like, I’m starting to feel it now. I’m almost pouring from an empty cup… Through my actions, I literally just lost my family.”
He explained that his role as the “strong provider” left him emotionally unavailable, stating, “I wasn’t there emotionally, I wasn’t empathetic,” and admitting that this dynamic caused strain in his relationship. According to Barnes, Sims would often tell him he was like “a wall,” and Barnes acknowledged that he had been “too” guarded, admitting he hadn’t cried in nearly 30 years.
In a now-deleted response, Anansa Sims shared a post on Instagram, urging Barnes to “tell the whole story” and accusing him of using their private matters for sympathy. Sims had previously accused Barnes of infidelity, alleging he was involved with “8 different women in January” in a viral rant earlier this year.
“I’m in the trenches doing the hard work making sure all of our kids are ok,” she wrote, calling for him to focus on therapy and building a relationship with God instead of talking about her publicly.
