Shortly after #MattBarnes won big in his custody case against ex-wife #GloriaGovan, he has filed to have his monthly child support payments reduced. Barnes now primarily has his 10-year-old twin boys, and Govan gets them every other weekend and Wednesday evenings for dinner…so why continue to pay $20k on child support per month? The NBA Star has his own reasonings.
His current $20k per month child support payment was established while Barnes was still active in the NBA and making substantially more money. According to The Blast, Barnes said he currently makes about $150,000 per year and based on the standard child support calculations, he believes his payments should come down to $5,596 per month.
The request for a child support reduction comes right after Barnes publicly expressed how he felt about mothers mis-using child support money and spending it on themselves. He also called out the court systems, stating the entire decision-making process as it relates to support payments needs to be fixed. Barnes said, “We know the system is broken. It don’t cost $60,000, $50,000, $40,000, $20,000 to raise no children. We all know that. Most of these women are out here buying cars, buying bags, taking vacations off that child support money.”
Child support…who is to say what’s really fair these days?
