Matt Gaetz recently suggested on Twitter that Nicki Minaj should join Donald Trump on his potential ticket for the 2024 presidential election.
Gaetz is a Republican representative for Florida’s 1st congressional district and shared in what can be considered a tongue-in-cheek tweet on Friday.
Minaj has found herself in the middle of controversy following her recent comments on the COVID-19 vaccine. Minaj admitted that she had not been vaccinated against COVID-19, which added to the whirlwind of criticism she has received.
Gaetz decided to share an article from The Daily Beast, which claimed the New York rapper had shared the phone numbers of two journalists who were looking into her claims that a friend of her cousin had suffered swollen testicles after getting the vaccine, Newsweek reported.
“Trump/Minaj 2024,” the congressman’s tweet said.
Minaj’s story about her cousin’s friend quickly made its rounds on social media, resulting in Trinidad and Tobago’s health minister Terrence Deyalsingh making a statement on it.
“There is absolutely no reported such side effect or adverse event of testicular swelling in Trinidad, or I dare say anywhere. None that we know of anywhere else in the world.”
“We had to check and make sure that what she was claiming was either true or false,” Deyalsingh told a news conference. “Unfortunately, we wasted so much time yesterday running down this false claim. As far as we know at this point in time, there has been no such reported either side effect or adverse event.”
Minaj has openly said that she will probably get vaccinated for the purposes of going on tour.
“A lot of countries won’t let ppl work w/o the vaccine. I’d def recommend they get the vaccine. They have to feed their families. I’m sure I’ll b vaccinated as well cuz I have to go on tour, etc,” she said.
