Mattel has been at the center of inclusion in their recent Barbie launches. Now, they are taking the children back to class and honoring the legacy of a significant woman in history, Madam C. J. Walker.
The African American philanthropist, entrepreneur, and political and social activist is the first female self-made millionaire in the United States of America.
Famous for making a successful haircare line with inclusive products, it’s only fitting Mattel made Walker into a Barbie doll.
Barbie posted about the doll on Instagram, showing the incredible features.
Barbie captions the post, “Don’t wait for opportunities to come – make them.”
“#Barbie is proud to introduce Madam CJ Walker as the newest doll in the Inspiring Women line.
With a sharp instinct and unflinching determination, Madam Walker was the nation’s first self-made female millionaire, creating a business that pioneered modern Black haircare,” the post continues.
Barbie reportedly got in touch with A’Lelia Bundles, Madam C.J. Walker’s great-great-granddaughter, who shared the businesswoman’s favorite colors and cultural knowledge of the era’s beauty standards and styles.
The new Barbie doll retails for $35 and is available on Mattel’s website, Walmart, Target, and Amazon.
