Matthews Knowles is reflecting on his health journey over the past few years and urging his fans to prioritize self-care.
On Monday, the former Destiny’s Child manager took to Twitter to spread his message while looking back on his recent illnesses, the most serious being rare male breast cancer.
“Over the last five years I’ve experienced Covid, Cancer and two knee replacements. I’m grateful that I found my male breast cancer at stage one. My major takeaway from the last five years has been self-care,” he wrote.

Knowles revealed in 2019 that he’d been diagnosed with male breast cancer after noticing drops of blood on his t-shirts on several occasions. Thankfully, he caught the illness early and is now cancer-free. This was seemingly an eye-opening experience, as breast cancer claimed the lives of his mother, aunt, and great-aunt. Now, the music executive is focused on remaining well and encouraging his followers to do the same.
“Self-care is the practice of taking deliberate actions to maintain and improve your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. It involves prioritizing your own needs and engaging in activities that promote self-nurturing, relaxation, and personal growth. Self-care is not selfish; it is a vital aspect of maintaining a healthy and balanced life. Remember, self-care is not a luxury but a necessity for your well-being,” Knowles added.
For those looking to take Knowles’ advice, here are a few self-care tips that you can easily implement into your day-to-day life.
- Establish Boundaries
- Engage in Hobbies
- Disconnect from Technology
- Regular Health Check-ups
- Creative Expression
- Nature and Fresh Air
