Maurene Comey, daughter of former FBI Director James Comey and a key prosecutor in the Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell cases, has been fired from her senior role in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.
A DOJ official confirmed the news Wednesday, though the department has yet to provide a public explanation for her termination. Comey was serving as a senior trial counsel in SDNY, one of the most high-profile offices in the country.
While details around her firing remain unclear, far-right political activist and Trump loyalist Laura Loomer wasted no time claiming credit. Loomer tweeted that the move came two months after she publicly pressured Attorney General Pam Bondi to remove Comey, labeling her a biased figure due to her father’s legacy and Trump criticism.
Loomer also dragged Comey’s husband, Lucas Issacharoff, into the mix. He reportedly still works at the DOJ in the Civil Division, though Loomer suggested he should be next on the chopping block, calling him a “Trump hater.”
Maurene Comey was part of the legal team that helped bring down Jeffrey Epstein’s inner circle, including Ghislaine Maxwell, who was sentenced for sex trafficking minors. Her dismissal comes at a time when Trump stated that the Epstein files are a “democratic hoax”.
