McDonald’s Is Giving Fans a Chance to Win Lifetime of Free Food with McGold Card

If you’re feeling lucky why not try to win McDonald’s McGold Card? It’s like winning the food lottery.

The fast food franchise is offering the chance of a lifetime to three customers starting next month. McDonald’s McGold Cards allow the winners and their friends free McDonald’s food “for life,” the company confirmed.

“Our fans have been fascinated by the lore of the McGold Card and if it really exists. And now, we’ll make this McDonald’s legend a reality for our fans by giving them the ultimate holiday gift — a chance to win a card and then share access to it with three of their family or friends,” said McDonald’s executive Tariq Hassan, in a statement.

For those interested, you can enter for a chance to win the “McDonald’s for Life” sweepstakes, by making purchases in the McDonald’s app between Dec. 5-25, which automatically earns you one entry per purchase. But, you have to be enrolled in the MyMcDonald’s Rewards program.

For the no purchase necessary option, you can visit the official McDonald for Life sweepstakes.com which starts on Dec. 5, KTLA reported.

Winners will receive a McDonald’s McGold Card, “with a value of $1,040 per year for fifty years” that can then be used at participating locations, as well as an additional $22,285 “to help offset taxes,” the official rules read.

But winners have another option, they can choose to receive their winnings valued at $1,040, and take the rest ($50,960) in the form of a check, along with an additional $22,285 to make up for taxes.

Another big win is that the company will allow winners to pick three friends to receive the same prize, except they will not receive the $22,285 to offset taxes, all because “McDonald’s tastes better with friends,” the company stated.

The McGold card has been somewhat of a company fable. In 2007, Warren Buffett said he had one–or something like it–that he kept in his wallet. He said he was able to get free food at Omaha locations. Then, later on, actor Rob Lowe went on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” saying he received one from a friend whose father was a franchisee but it was only good for a year at Santa Barbara-area locations.

“McDonald’s for Life” sweepstakes has additional prizes besides the McGold Card as a way of celebrating the holidays. The eatery will have exclusive merchandise offers for app users, and daily deals on some of its most popular menu items til the end of December.
