A McDonald’s manager lost his eye after the father of a fired employee used a rake to attack him.
Kendell Cooks, 38, has been found guilty of an incident in January 2019 at a Chesterfield, St. Louis McDonald’s located on Olive near Woods Mill. Fox 2 Now reports Cooks went up to the McDonalds after his daughter was fired earlier for using inappropriate language in front of customers and not wearing the proper attire for work. Cooks claimed the manager shoved his daughter out of the restaurant, and that sent him into a fury.
Just 90 minutes later, after the alleged shoving, Cooks confronted the manager with a garden rake from a nearby dumpster in hand. The manager was sitting in his car during a work break at the time of the incident, and that’s when the father started smashing his car windows and beating him with the rake.
“A weapon was used, a rake,” said Sam Alton, chief of staff for prosecutor Wesley Bell. “The victim was in his car. Mr. Cooks used the rake to assault the victim. In the process, the victim lost his eye. It was a very dangerous crime, a life-threatening crime.”
While he says his daughter was pushed out, video footage from the McDonald’s shows the manager stumbled, causing him to bump into the worker inadvertently.
On Thursday, Cooks was found guilty of assault in the first degree, armed criminal action, and misdemeanor property damage. Cooks could be looking at 30 years, Fox 2 Now reports.
