McDonald’s Shamrock Shake Has Arrived For It’s 53rd Year

This is not a drill! McDonald’s is bringing back its famous Shamrock Shake just in time for St. Patrick’s Day.

The shake originally debuted in 1970 as a way for the fast food giant to celebrate the Irish holiday. Since then, fans have waited patiently each year for the start of Shamrock Shake season. This green beverage is concocted of vanilla soft serve, dyed with McDonald’s secret mint flavoring, giving it a green tint, and topped with fluffy whip cream. This cult favorite got a well-received remix in 2020 when McDonald’s experimented with combining the Oreo McFlurry and the Shamrock Shake. What emerged was the Oreo Shamrock McFlurry, becoming an instant hit amongst customers.

Not only is this shake delicious, but it has also long been aligned with a great cause. In 1974, McDonald’s used shake proceeds to fund the very first Ronald McDonald House, which helps children facing terminal illnesses. The first house was opened in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Now, there are over 360 locations across 64 countries.

Social media has already begun rejoicing, sharing their excitement across Twitter.

You can get your hands on a Shamrock Shake or an Oreo Shamrock McFlurry now through the end of March.
