After Dr. Larry Nassar was sentenced in October to 60 years in prison; 22-year-old Olympic gold medalist gymnast, McKayla Maroney took to twitter using the #Metoo hashtag and said, “I had a dream to go to the Olympics, and the things that I had to endure to get there were unnecessary and disgusting.”

USA Gymnastics then released a statement saying it, “admires the courage of those, like McKayla Maroney, who have come forward to share their personal experiences with sexual abuse.”

Maroney then filed a lawsuit recently claiming, that USA Gymnastics tried to stop her from accusing Nassar of sexual abuse back in 2016, saying the USA Gymnastics, “had a plan to keep the sexual abuse of Nassar quiet, and allow Nassar to quietly leave USAG; further silencing his victims.” According to USA TODAY Sports, the lawsuit claims Maroney was forced to sign a confidentiality agreement, as part of a $1.25 million financial settlement which she uses for psychological treatment. Maroney along with 2012 Olympic teammates, Aly Raisman and Gabby Douglas made allegations earlier this year against Nassar.

Maroney also claims that Nassar took several pictures all the time for his own sexual gratification.“Nassar would continuously, obsessively and compulsively photograph McKayla Maroney and is believed to have possessed thousands of photographs of McKayla Maroney competing in gymnastics events, training, in everyday situations. McKayla Maroney alleges that she believes photographs were taken of her while Nassar was sexually abusing her under the guise of treatment. McKayla Maroney is further informed and believes, and on that basis alleges, that these photographs were shared by Nassar with other pedophiles for their sexual gratification,” the lawsuit claims.

USA Gymnastics said in a statement, Maroney’s former lawyer Gloria Allred, “approached USA Gymnastics, requesting that the organization participate in a confidential mediation process. USA Gymnastics cannot speak to the mediation process, which is confidential and privileged under California law. The process culminated in a settlement agreement that included a mutual non-disclosure clause and a mutual non-disparagement clause.”
