Ahmaud Arbery‘s killers Gregory McMichael and Travis McMichael are set to face trial for federal hate crimes charges after withdrawing their guilty pleas.
On Thursday, after a judge declined the terms of a plea deal for him and his convicted son, 66-year-old Gregory McMichael rolled back his guilty plea entry. McMichael and his son Travis, 35, were both convicted of murdering Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia, and they were sentenced to serve life in prison with no chance of parole.
William “Roddie” Ryan was also convicted in the murder case. He’s also been sentenced to life in prison but with the possibility of parole. He will have to serve at least 30 years before he’s eligible, NPR.org reports. This month, all three men were given life sentences for chasing and murdering Arbery on Feb. 23, 2020.
McMichael will now have to appear in court for trial, the New York Post reports. Selection for the jury is set to begin Monday.
