The victory for Meek Mill being released from prison back in late April was a win for all of us, and really opened up the conversation about prison reform in the African-American community. But a small setback has happened in our victory lap.
#TMZ confirmed today, that Judge #GeneceBrinkley denied and shut down Meek’s motion for a new trial, even though prosecutors admitted that he should receive one.
“After an in-depth review of the record, court history, notes of testimony and evidence submitted at the evidentiary hearing, this court hereby denies defendants petition for PCRA relief as defendant failed to meet his burden of proof.” Brinkley ruled on Monday.

All of this seems a bit unfair as we all know, Meek‘s key witness and arresting officer in his 2008 trial is the main person involved in a police corruption scandal in Philly.

The story is still evolving with no current further details, but it is believed that Meek Mill’s team will definitely be appealing this ruling.
