Megan Thee Stallion’s new documentary, Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words, premiered Thursday on Amazon Prime, offering an intimate look at her rise from a Houston freestyle rapper to a global superstar. The two-hour feature also delves into the most challenging periods of her life, including the impact of her mother’s passing and the aftermath of the 2020 shooting incident involving Tory Lanez.
In a particularly revealing moment, Megan addresses her 2022 CBS Mornings interview with Gayle King, where she had denied having a sexual relationship with Lanez. During Lanez’s trial, however, Megan disclosed that they had been intimate, shedding new light on her past statements. Reflecting on that interview, Megan expressed her frustration over being caught off guard, admitting, “Yes, I lied to Gayle King.”
She explained that she hadn’t expected King to bring up her relationship with Lanez, saying, “First of all, I didn’t know she was even gonna ask me about that.” Megan shared that she had gone into the interview prepared to discuss other topics, only to be surprised when the conversation shifted. “Even if I did [have a relationship with him], it was like once, maybe twice, on a drunk night,” she added.
Elsewhere in the documentary, Megan shares one of the most heart-wrenching moments of her life: the loss of her mother, Holly Pete. She recalls the painful decision to end life support for her mother after an urgent call led to the discovery of a brain tumor. Holly’s health quickly declined, and by the end, she was declared brain-dead. As the only surviving member of her immediate family, Megan was forced to make the agonizing choice to pull the plug.
The rapper also speaks candidly about the emotional toll of the harassment she faced following the shooting incident, revealing that Lanez supporters led a campaign of online abuse that pushed her to the brink. With death threats and messages suggesting Lanez “should have finished the job,” Megan describes how this relentless harassment contributed to her struggles with anxiety and even suicidal thoughts.
