Megan Thee Stallion talks memories of her late mother, her upcoming album “Suga” and balancing life as one of the newest hot rappers in Hip Hop.
It seems like we’ve been fanning ourselves ever since Thee Hot Girl hit the music scene. From “Big Ole Freak,” “Realer,” and “Hot Girl Summer,” Megan is exactly what we’ve needed. Megan sat down for an interview with Rolling Stone and opened up about how her rap career began, which started with her mother, Holly Thomas.
Thomas was Megan’s first rap influence, the 25-year-old star recalled, sitting in the backseat of her mother’s car during her ride to school. “It’s me in the back seat of my mom’s car, on my way to school, listening to some UGK shit,” Megan said, describing how she’d direct the opening of a movie about her life. “Every time she put on a new song, [she would say] ‘Put you on some real shit right quick,” she said. The fire to be a rapper was also passed down to Meg, as her mother was a known rapper in Houston, who went by the name Holly-Wood. Thomas was also Meg’s first manager. “When I started rapping, and cussing and shit, she was like, ‘I don’t know where you get it from,’ She was a potty-mouth, worse than me.” Megan said her father was a “full-time hustler,” who was imprisoned for the first eight years of her life.
And while Meg has endured some of her toughest battles, including losing her mother and grandmother, she pushes forward with her music career as well as her college career at Texas Southern University. “My grandmother would be very pissed off at me if I just stopped college right now. My mother would’ve been like, ‘It don’t matter.’ I got to get this degree. I already started it, and I’m interested in what I’m doing because I want to open up assisted-living facilities in the city.”
But things aren’t quite like they were in college. While fully aware of the challenges fame brings her, she says she sometimes hesitates to go out because of the rumors people spread, especially when it comes to male celebs. “These are my immediate girlfriends, and we all have a lot of guy friends. But now, it’s just a public thing. People think that if I’m hanging out with anybody, it got to be, ‘Oh, they’re having sex.’ Why can’t I just be turnt up with my friend tonight?” she asked. “They’re just doing this shit because they want some attention, and I cannot feed into it. I have a little anxiety, because I’m still going through the grief from losing my mother and my grandmother. Then I have to get on the internet and see these motherfuckers talking about me? That shit really be pissing me off sometimes.”
Despite the trivial drama, Meg continues to get the bag and drop bangers toting her popular pooch, 4oe, in hand. He next album, titled “Suga,” is an introduction to her new alter ego, which she plans to drop on her beloved mother’s birthday. “May 2nd is my mom’s birthday.” Confirmed artist features on the album are fellow musicians SZA, Kehlani, and the Neptunes.
Thee Stallion has quickly become a sex symbol, a leader in the womanist movement, and now she’s ready to consider what the kids want from her musically. “When I started making music, I was making music that I liked,” Megan said. “I’m making ratchet shit, turn up shit. I’m doing me. I wasn’t thinking about anybody else in my music. I wasn’t thinking about kids, and I’m not thinking about other races. I wasn’t thinking about anybody but me and my brand, but when I go, and I see these other artists, and when I go to some of my friend’s shows, and I’m looking at who’s in the crowd, and I’m looking at even my god-sister, they’re six, seven, eight, and they’re singing my songs. I’m like, ‘Okay. Let me give y’all something a little deeper, because I definitely want to grow with my music. I want to grow up with my music. That was me making music as a freshman in college.”
The support and admiration of Megan is real, and the Hottie says she feels it when fans recite every word of her songs. “I want to cry a little bit. We going to cry, but we still doing bad-girl shit.”

Interesting! Love to see how things are different, etc. I would 100% want to talk to my kids about sex to make sure that they were well prepared, using condoms, understanding about anatomy, etc. I would also, once the boy got older, would hopefully get him a bottle of penis health crème as the nutrients and protiens are very helpful to the delicate skin.
