Megan Thee Stallion Slams Texas Abortion Ban

Megan Thee Stallion is slamming the controversial abortion ban in her home state.

The Houston rapper took to her Instagram on Friday to speak out against the new law that has been at the center of widespread outrage. She posted a graphic that read, “I oppose the Texas abortion ban.”

“Y’all know I’m a Texas girl, and we deserve better! Politicians want to cut off abortion access and control our bodies, lives, and futures — I’m speaking up,” she wrote in the caption. She asked her followers to also take action by texting ACCESS to 22422. Once users text the number, they will be sent a link to sign a petition, pleading for the law to be abolished.

Back in May, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed the measure that bans abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected. This usually occurs around the six-week mark, which is when most women learn of their pregnancy, giving them no chance to decide whether or not they want to terminate the pregnancy. Private citizens can sue anyone who helps a woman access an abortion after six weeks. The bill went into effect on September 1st and faced widespread outrage almost immediately from women’s rights groups. President Joe Biden slammed the law, calling it a violation of Roe v. Wade. The Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against Texas to block the bill, and on Wednesday, they scored a win in the battle when a Texas federal judge ruled to block the state’s abortion law temporarily.

Texas lawmakers are planning to appeal the judge’s ruling.
