Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle will serve as a special guest alongside Forever First Lady Michelle Obama at the 2020 Girl Up Leadership Summit, which will be held virtually next week from July 13 to 15th.
According to PEOPLE, Girl Up is a leadership initiative that has assisted over 60,000 girls through 3,500 clubs, more than 100 countries, and all of America, while working towards inspiring an era of young ladies to represent “a force for gender equality and social change,” according to their website.
Markle will grace the summit with her presence to speak on gender equality and the demand for social change. The announcement came via an official tweet on the Girl Up Twitter account.
“The present is female! But don’t take our word for it. Hear Meghan Markle, The Duchess of Sussex’s advice for global girls’ leaders when she takes the stage at the 2020 @GirlUp Leadership Summit, happening virtually July 13-15!”
Outside of Obama, Markle will also be joining Nobel Peace Prize laureate Nadia Murad, COO of Facebook Sheryl Sandberg, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas as speakers for the three-day summit.Â
On Instagram, Markle opened up about being named a special guest for the upcoming summit.
“This is a topic that Meghan has been closely involved with throughout her time as a member of the British royal family and previous to her marriage, where she worked as a UN ambassador and made a memorable, powerful speech on gender equality,” Markle IG post read. “
The post continued:
“While living in the UK, she worked with numerous women’s charities and gave multiple speeches on women’s rights, including hosting a panel talk for International Women’s Day.”
