Mel B’s marriage to ex-husband, Stephen Belafonte, may be over. However, the two are preparing to duke it out in an all-new battle — this time, over the custody of their 8-year-old daughter, Madison.
In newly filed court docs obtained by TMZ, Belafonte has requested full legal and physical custody of young Madison. Mel B’s ex claims that the Spice Girls singer spends little time with the child after relocating to the U.K., explaining that he has been the primary caregiver of Madison for most of 2018 and a large part of 2019. Belafonte is also requesting that Mel only have supervised visitation in L.A.
Belafonte’s reasoning for wanting primary custody is to protect Madison from Mel’s alleged verbal and psychological abuse that he himself has endured. According to the 44-year-old producer, their daughter revealed to him that she was “afraid her mother would hurt her,” going on to explain that “her mother would make her sit in a dark room and repeatedly question her over and over and demand answers from her.”
Mel and Belafonte were married from 2007 to 2017. However, claims of sexual and physical abuse lead to a nasty divorce that was riddled with allegations from both parties.
