The morning after a harrowing incident at a Pennsylvania campaign rally, Melania Trump released an emotional statement urging Americans to prioritize “love, compassion, kindness, and empathy” over political differences. Her heartfelt message followed the shocking event where her husband, former President Donald Trump, narrowly escaped a shooting that tragically claimed one life and injured two others.
“When I watched that violent bullet strike my husband, Donald, I realized my life, and Barron’s life, were on the brink of devastating change,” the former first lady wrote on Sunday, July 14. She extended her deepest sympathy to the families of those wounded, including the bystander who was killed.
Describing the attacker as a “monster” who saw her husband as an “inhuman political machine,” Melania highlighted the human side of Donald Trump. She emphasized his passion, laughter, ingenuity, love of music, and inspiration, qualities often overshadowed by his political persona. “Donald, the generous and caring man who I have been with through the best of times and the worst of times,” she said.
Melania stressed that political differences should never eclipse basic human values. “Let us not forget that differing opinions, policy, and political games are inferior to love,” she added. “Political concepts are simple when compared to us, human beings.”
Calling for unity, she asserted the inherent desire of humans to help one another and urged Americans to “come back together as one.” She noted that politics is just one means to uplift communities, but love, compassion, kindness, and empathy are fundamental.
“And let us remember that when the time comes to look beyond the left and the right, beyond the red and the blue, we all come from families with the passion to fight for a better life together, while we are here, in this earthly realm.”
Reflecting on the tumultuous rally, where Donald Trump was rushed offstage after the shooting on July 13, Melania declared, “dawn is here again.” She urged everyone to rise above hate and violence, envisioning a world where respect and family take precedence, and love reigns supreme.
“We all want a world where respect is paramount, family is first, and love transcends. We can realize this world again. Each of us must demand to get it back. We must insist that respect fills the cornerstone of our relationships again,” she concluded.
