Melissa McCarthy is reportedly taking her talents to the mythological world under the sea, as Variety reports the comedian is in talks to play the famous sea witch, Ursula.
According to Variety, McCarthy has been tapped to play the underwater villain in the forthcoming live-action adaptation of “The Little Mermaid.” Although the deal has yet to be completed, sources say McCarthy is the biggest contender.
With Rob Marshall set to direct the live-action remake, sources say the film will pull some of the original songs from the 1989 original and incorporate new music from Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda, who is also producing the film with Marshall, Marc Platt, and John DeLuca. Meanwhile, the script has been written by David Magee.
