Love a black woman from infinity to INFINITYYYY! Mellody Hobson is now the co-owner of the Denver Broncos NFL team.
Mellody is the first black woman to have equity in the NFL. Mellody received the position due to her stake in The Walton-Penner ownership group spearheading the Broncos deal.
Mellody is currently the President of Ariel Investments and a Starbucks chairwoman. In a press statement, Walton says they’re “excited” to have Hobson a part of their team.
“Beyond her role at Ariel, Mellody is an influential leader in corporate and civic organizations across the nation,” the statement says. “Mellody currently serves as Chair of the Board of Starbucks Corporation and is also a director of JPMorgan Chase. We know she will bring her strategic acumen and leadership perspective to our team.”
Mellody’s percentage amounts and actual level of ownership are still under wraps. However, the payout seems to be pretty hefty.
The conversation surrounding black ownership in sports have been trending lately. Snoop Dogg recently gave his opinion on the matter, and mogul Byron Allen is currently attempting to buy the Bronco team. Kanye West has also been in the news for trying to purchase the Broncos alongside Antonio Brown and other DONDA Sports affiliates.
