One of fashion’s biggest nights is honoring German fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld’s legacy. The Met Gala 2023 theme will embody the late fashion designer’s career.
The gala, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” will be like every other Met Gala, on the first Monday of May. The Met Gala released a statement on the theme, saying it will bring around 150 designs to “explore the designer’s stylistic language.”
On February 19, 2019, Lagerfield died at 85 of pancreatic cancer.
Since the beauty world has lost one of the most talented designers, it’s likely to say the 2023’s Met Gala red carpet will feature looks from fashion houses like Chanel, as Lagerfeld was the creative director of the brand since 1983.
“Karl Lagerfeld was one of the most captivating, prolific, and recognizable forces in fashion and culture, known as much for his extraordinary designs and tireless creative output as for his legendary persona,” Max Hollein, Marina Kellen French Director of The Met, said in a statement. “This immersive exhibition will unpack his singular artistic practice, inviting the public to experience an essential part of Lagerfeld’s boundless imagination and passion for innovation.”
