Meta plans to launch the web version of its text-based platform, Threads, in a bid to stay competitive with X (Twitter).
This move targets power users such as brands, advertisers, and journalists, boosting Threads’ appeal after the initial user surge subsided.
According to Instagram head Adam Mosseri, the launch date remains unspecified but said the release date was coming soon.
“We are close on the web…,” Mosseri said in a post on Threads on Friday.
Threads launched as an Android and iOS app on July 5, drawing 100 million users in five days. However, its popularity dipped as users reverted to X after the initial rush.
Within a month, daily active users on the Android app fell from 49.3 million to 10.3 million, based on Similarweb’s August 10 report.
