Monday, September 16th, marks the 31st birthday of super producer Metro Boomin, and his contributions are certainly worth praising.
Born Leland Tyler Wayne in St. Louis, Missouri, he began making music in his teen years. However, Metro’s career took off drastically after relocating to Atlanta to attend Morehouse College in 2011. He was quickly thrust into the star-studded rap scene, producing records for Young Thug, Gucci Mane, Future, and his close friend, 21 Savage. Metro’s career hit a new height when he co-produced the 2014 hit “Tuesday” for iLoveMakonnen, which got a Drake remix. The track peaked at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100.
It was Metro’s work on Drake and Future’s 2015 “What a Time to Be Alive” joint mixtape that further propelled him into the spotlight. With Metro as executive producer, the tape peaked at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 and is now two times platinum. Metro’s album “Not All Heroes Wear Capes” debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 in 2018 and was certified platinum. Thankfully, with each accomplishment, Metro further proved his abilities.
