A popular Mexican influencer and bodybuilder has passed away after undergoing a botched surgery to fix her abnormal sweating.
At just 23, Odalis Santos Mena has tragically died after being recruited by the SkinPiel clinic in Guadalajara to promote a new antiperspirant treatment called MiraDry. The New York Post reports that the procedure was created to cure excess underarm sweat by using a heat energy process that removes sweat glands.
During the procedure, Mena went into cardiac arrest after being given anesthesia. The young woman died shortly after, and the medical officials weren’t able to bring her back to life using CPR. Reports show that the bodybuilder promoted the procedure on her social media page, catering to 147,000 followers on Instagram.
The New York Post reports the MiraDry treatment was described as safe and effective. According to the results of a police investigation, negligence by the medical staff was one of the factors that led to Mena’s death.
Reports show the person who administered the anesthesia was not a trained anesthesiologist. Corners said the steroid Mena was taking also contributed to her passing. However, SkinPiel clinic claimed it knew about the steroid the woman was taking.
