The wish of a 4-year-old who gained popularity online for expressing a desire to become Mexican has been partially fulfilled.
In a now-viral video, Zavion is seen having a tantrum while expressing to his mother his desire to be Mexican because he enjoys eating quesadillas. The Mexico national soccer team subsequently discovered the boy and presented him with his beloved quesadillas and an El Tri jersey.
Belaynesh Gebre, Zavion’s mother, shared another video capturing her son’s interaction with the soccer team players. In the video, Zavion can be seen wearing the jersey, meeting the players, and holding a quesadilla in his hand. It appears that he had the opportunity to attend a soccer game and even took photos with enthusiastic fans.

Gebre initially recorded the video that gained attention, capturing him sitting in his car seat and pouting because he expressed a longing to be Mexican. When his mother asked him about his feelings, he explained that he was upset because he wanted to be Mexican.
“You’re Ethiopian. You’re African, you’re black,” Gebre said to Zavion. She then asks why he wanted to be Mexican, Zavion yelled, “Because I eat quesadillas!”
Subsequently, Gebre asked another question,”So you don’t want to be from Africa anymore?” to which Zavion responded with a definite “No.”
