Mexico is suing U.S. gunmakers for helping to supply Mexican drug cartels with illegal firearms.

Several companies, including Smith & Wesson, Barrett Firearms, Colt’s Manufacturing Company, Glock Inc, Sturm, and Ruger & Co, were named in the suit. According to the claim filed on Wednesday, they are being accused of reckless business practices that fostered the trafficking of illicit guns into Mexico.

Among the many weapons that the suit attributed to numerous shootings, it noted that the .38-caliber “Emiliano Zapata 1911” made by Colt’s, features an image of the Mexican revolutionary. This image has long been used as a status symbol among drug cartels.

The lawsuit claims that over 500,000 guns are trafficked every year from the United States into Mexico. Over 340,000 are manufactured by the gunmakers listed in the court docs. Since 2019, the illegal weapons trafficked from the United States have caused at least 17,000 murders.

Despite these staggering numbers, Lawrence G. Keane, senior vice president of the National Shooting Sports Foundation Inc (NSSF), slammed Mexico’s claims, stating that their own government is the one “responsible for the rampant crime and corruption.”

Mexican officials are seeking approximately $10 billion in damages.

In response, the families of dead drug addicts, and the U.S. government, should sue the Mexican government for the flood of illegal drugs spilling into our country, and for the deaths of our citizens due to Mexico’s illegal drug trade; that Mexico does NOTHING TO STOP THE ILLEGAL DRUG TRADE. Mexico’s major cash cow IS illegal drugs. I guarantee our lawsuit against Mexico will far exceed the damages Mexico seeks. So, Mexico, shithole of the world, bring it on!
