A Miami Boost Mobile owner was fatally shot during a robbery outside his business Friday while trying to lock up for the night.
The victim, Walter Castaneda Sr., was robbed of money before being shot. Nearby, two of his grandchildren were waiting for him in a car.
“He was closing the store, and it seems like some individuals were waiting for him across the street,” his son, Walter Castaneda Jr., told WVSN. His son believes Castaneda was targeted.
A white car was captured pulling up near the store on surveillance video. You can see two men struggling and a suspect in an orange hoodie fire at the store owner before taking off with a bag.
Castenada fired back as the suspect ran and jumped into the waiting vehicle.
Castenada Jr. believes whoever is behind the robbery knew that his father had the store’s weekly earnings in the bag.
The store owner’s grandchildren got out of the car they were waiting in to see what was taking so long to close the sore. They found him lying on the ground, shot in his stomach and his ribs.
Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to come forward, please. You can call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. You can volunteer information while remaining anonymous.
