A Miami-Dade police lieutenant and former high-ranking union member has landed himself in hot water after being accused and charged with sexual battery.

According to CNN, John Jenkins, Jr. was booked into Palm Beach County Jail on Friday and “relieved of his official duties as a Miami-Dade Police Department lieutenant,” Miami-Dade Police Director Alfredo “Freddy” Ramirez, III stated.

His suspension came “immediately” after the director was informed that Jenkins was involved in an off-duty incident on April 25 in the city of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

“Now learning of his arrest, it has brought a sense of disappointment that is immeasurable,” Ramirez said. “This is a serious matter and I am confident that the City of Palm Beach Gardens Police Department will continue to carry out a thorough investigation.”

Last week, the lieutenant resigned from his position as executive vice president of the South Florida Police Benevolent Association, CNN affiliate WPLG reported.

He faces two counts of sexual battery on another adult, his jail record indicates.

Jenkins is to have no contact with the victim(s) under the judge’s order. His bond was set at $40,000.

His next hearing is scheduled for July 1.
