This latest suspension comes shortly after Butler completed a seven-game suspension for “multiple instances of conduct detrimental to the team.” Following that first suspension, the Heat issued a strong statement about Butler’s actions, saying, “Through his actions and statements, he has shown he no longer wants to be part of this team. Jimmy Butler and his representative have indicated that they wish to be traded, therefore, we will listen to offers.”
The Heat are reportedly exploring trade options to meet Butler’s request, but sources say they have yet to find a deal that satisfies Miami’s requirements. The Heat are seeking a combination of assets that include players who can contribute immediately, young talent, movable contracts, and draft capital.
Butler is in the final guaranteed year of his contract and holds a player option worth over $52 million for next season, making him one of the league’s highest-paid players. However, his growing frustrations and actions suggest he may not intend to exercise that option in Miami.
The six-time All-Star has been a key part of the Heat since joining the team in 2019, helping lead them to the NBA Finals twice in four years. But recent events, including his suspension and trade request, signal a growing divide between Butler and the franchise.
