A Miami woman is facing charges for trying to hire a hitman to murder her 3-year-old son through a fabricated murder-for-hire website.
According to CBS News, court documents indicate that 18-year-old Jazmin Paez allegedly shared photos and provided the location of her son on the parody website, RentaHitman.com. The owner of the website, Robert Innes, originally developed it for a cybersecurity project. However, he revealed that he now receives thousands of inquiries daily. According to Innes, Paez allegedly filled out an online request form. She stated that she was searching for a hitman to “get something done once and for all.” Additionally, Paez expressed her desire to have her son taken “far, far away.”
Innes says he made multiple attempts to report the incident to the Miami-Dade Police Department but was redirected to CrimeStoppers USA.
“They were not interested. They sent me an email saying if I contacted one more time they were going to send a cease and desist letter,” Innes said.
Nevertheless, investigators found that the request on the website originated from a computer with the same IP address as the one owned by Paez. This allowed them to track down and identify Paez as the individual associated with the request.
Paez is currently facing first-degree solicitation of murder and third-degree use of a communications device for an unlawful purpose charges. On Wednesday, she was taken into custody and booked at a Miami-Dade County detention center, where a standard $15,000 bond was set. At this time, it remains uncertain whether she has posted bail or acquired legal representation.
