This week, Miami will be home to the largest cryptocurrency conference in history. According to Fox Business, the conference will run from June 3 to June 5 at the Mana Convention Center in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood. Some of those who are expected to attend are Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey and Miami Mayor Francis Suarez. Suarez says he wants to make the city a hub for cryptocurrency.
Initially, the conference was scheduled to take place from April 30 to May 1 in Los Angeles. However, due to California’s strict COVID-19 rules, the time and location were changed. Reports show the date change will give the second wave of the virus time to pass as vaccines continue to be distributed.
In January, Suarez told Fox Business he plans to allow citizens to pay taxes and fees to the city in bitcoin. “We want to be one of the most crypto-forward and technological cities in the country,” he said. “So we’re looking at…creating a regulatory framework that makes us the easiest place in the United States to do business if you’re doing it in cryptocurrencies.”
