In the new two-episode Apple TV+ documentary Number One on the Call Sheet, Michael B. Jordan and Daniel Kaluuya open up about their late friend and co-star, Chadwick Boseman, who died in 2020 from colon cancer, and the profound impact he had on their lives and careers.
Jordan shared an emotional reflection on his friendship with Boseman, admitting that he often thinks about what he could have done differently in their relationship.
“It’s something I think about often, you know,” Jordan said. “Not checking up as much as I should. It’s something that weighs on me also. I’m not trying to turn this into a therapy session, but Chadwick is special.” He expressed deep regret, adding, “I was looking forward to, like, you know…”
Elsewhere in the documentary, Kaluuya also shared his memories of Boseman, recalling a special moment they shared before his passing.
During a Q&A, Kaluuya was asked to highlight the people he thought were amazing in the process of making a film.
“The last time I saw him, we did a Q&A, and they were like, ’Who’s the people in this process that you think are amazing?’ And I just said, ‘Chad,’” Kaluuya recalled. His admiration for Boseman was evident as he described the difficulty of being the lead actor in a film. “Being the lead is a really hard job. And it’s a thankless job. It works because all the characters shine around you,” he said.
Kaluuya continued, using his own career to illustrate the point: “Really and truly, like in Get Out, they all shined. And I’m just in the pocket. Nope — Keke [Palmer] shined. And I’m in the pocket. It’s a thankless job, if you’re gonna do it the right way. If you’re serving the piece, serving the story.”
Number One on the Call Sheet, now streaming on Apple TV+, provides a heartfelt and powerful look at the lives and careers of these influential actors, as they pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman’s legacy.
