People Magazine has declared actor Michael B. Jordan 2020’s Sexiest Man Alive.
The 33-year-old was given the honor on Tuesday night, dethroning singer John Legend, who previously held the title.
“It’s a cool feeling. You know, everybody always made that joke, like, ‘Mike, this is the one thing you’re probably not going to get.’ But it’s a good club to be a part of,” he said during this week’s cover story with People. Jordan says that the women in his family, who are fans of People, “definitely proud of this one.”
“When my grandmother was alive, it was something that she collected, and then my mom naturally reads it a lot and my aunts as well. This is one that they’re definitely going to have a special place for.”
Jordan was introduced to Hollywood in the 2001 film “Hardball” alongside Keanu Reeves. He went on to join the cast of HBO’s “The Wire” in 2002 and the ABC soap opera “All My Children” in 2003. He has gone on to star in some of the biggest films in recent years, including “Creed” and it’s sequel, “Black Panther,” and “Just Mercy.”
The actor credits his parents with helping him to achieve the massive success that he has over the years.
“My mom and dad sacrificed so much to provide for my sister, brother and me. I’m just grateful. Honestly, it’s like they all have had such an impact on me and who I am and how I approach each day. Without that, a lot of things about me just wouldn’t be the same. So it all comes back to that foundation. I’m really thankful for that.”
This is not Jordan’s first time being recognized by People. In 2013, he was featured in their first annual Ones to Watch portfolio following his powerful performance in the film “Fruitvale Station.”
