Michael Blackson jumped to Ice Cube’s defense Wednesday after Cube was criticized for only paying Faizon Love $2,500 for his portrayal of “Big Worm” in Friday.
“Just like any other job there’s entry level pay for first timers, once you make a name for yourself you can demand any amount of money that you want and if they want you they will pay,” the comedian wrote on Instagram.
He included a picture of a tweet with the post that broke down his pay structure for the film. “I got paid $800 a day when I did Next Friday plus overtime I made $1200 for my one day’s of work,” he wrote. He then thanked the film for helping him become the “biggest African comic.”
Elsewhere in his post, he thanked Cube for the franchise, understanding that it helped launch his career.
On Wednesday morning, Cube retweeted a critic attempting to call him out for not properly compensating Love.
“I didn’t rob no f*** body. The 1995 Friday movie cost $2.3m to make,” he wrote. “Shot it in 20 days. Fazion worked 1 day, maybe 2. All the actors got paid scale to do the movie. They could’ve simple said ‘No’ but they didn’t. So miss me with that s***…”
