Michael Blackson has opened the doors to his new school in Ghana that will offer students free tuition.
The comedian and actor was present for the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday that took place in the town of Agona Nsaba, where Blackson spent much of his childhood years before migrating with his family to Philadelphia. Performances, speeches, and several activities marked the festive grand opening of the school called the Michael Blackson Academy.
The Michael Blackson Academy consists of three stories. It will offer an assortment of classes focusing on academics, arts, and comedy for elementary and junior-aged children who wish to follow in his footsteps. While this may be a surprise to many, the school has been in the works for years. Construction began in 2020 and was completed in December 2022. Students will be welcomed later this month.
In an Instagram Reel showing the school’s grand opening, Blackson expressed his excitement about the academy finally being completed.
“I’ve finally accomplished what I always wanted to do in my life, which is giving these children a chance to be great,” he wrote in the caption.
Blackson is no stranger to giving back. In 2019, he participated in Monster’s charity basketball game. Over the years, he has partaken in many other charitable causes and lent his platform to several pressing matters, such as the lack of feminine products readily available for young girls in his native country.
