On Wednesday, Michael Cohen, Donald Trump’s former lawyer, was sentenced to three years in prison for his crimes committed while working for Trump.
In court, according to TMZ, Cohen opened up about his crimes and took full responsibility for his actions and “blind loyalty” to Trump, who he claimed “led me to choose a path of darkness over light,” adding, “I felt it was my duty to cover up his dirty deeds.”
“Today is one of the most meaningful days of my life. The irony is that today I get my freedom back,” Cohen said, adding that, “I take full responsibly for each act that I pleaded guilty to…” including those implicating the “President of the United States of America.”
In addition to his prison stint, Cohen will also has to fork over more than a million dollars in restitution and fines of up to $100,000. He will also have to return a half a million dollar home equity loan after pleading guilty to 8 federal charges in August, including two campaign finance violations in connection to the hush money payment to Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election.
Cohen will have to report to prison by March.
