Michael Jackson, 23 years ago, did a historic interview with Oprah Winfrey, where he explicitly stated that he would not want to be played by a white actor.
In 1993 Oprah brought up the rumor that MJ once said he wanted to be portrayed by a “little white boy” in a Pepsi commercial. Michael laughed. “That is so stupid. That is the most ridiculous, horrifying story I’ve ever heard. It’s crazy” He further explained, “Number 1, it’s my face as a child. ME when I was little. Why would I want a white child to play me? I’m a Black American. I’m proud to be a Black American. I am proud of my race. I am proud of who I am.”
The interview resurfaced after it was announced that white British actor, Joseph Fiennes, will be playing Michael in an upcoming Sky Arts TV comedy “Elizabeth, Michael & Marlon.“
