Talk show host and NFL legend Michael Strahan announced that he will be visiting space next month.
The 50-year-old will join Laura Shepard Churchley, the daughter of astronaut Alan Shepard and four other paying customers on the New Shepard spacecraft, which will be launched by Jeff Bezos’ sub-orbital spaceflight services company, Blue Origin. The December 9th mission will be the third to carry humans to space on the New Shepard craft this year.
The Hall-of-Famer made the announcement during Tuesday’s episode of “Good Morning America.”Â
The flight will only last ten minutes and will launch from West Texas. All aboard will likely experience nearly three minutes of weightlessness. Passengers will also catch a stunning view of Earth’s curvature. As the capsule descends, travelers will be subjected to approximately six times the force of Earth’s gravity.
While Blue Origin has previously refused to disclose the cost of tickets for a private trip to space, flights are estimated to run anywhere between $300,000 and $400,000.
No matter the cost, the former New York Giants star said that witnessing the first Blue Origin flight was enough for him to decide that a trip to space was worth the hefty price tag.
