Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, Michael Vick, will be meeting with Pennsylvania lawmakers Tuesday, December 8th, in support of PA House Bill 1516, also known as the ‘pets in cars’ bill.
The bill will give police officers authority to rescue dogs and cats left unattended in cars due to unsafe temperatures.
While many critics may turn their noses up at his efforts due to his past, Vick has promised to advocate for animal safety locally, despite his past indiscretions.
“The only thing I can do is try to inform the masses of kids to not go down the same road I went down. I know that I’m an unlikely advocate,” Vick said through a representative. “I was part of the problem. Now, my perspective can help reach people that activists can’t reach. I can help others become agents of change.”
Vick is trying to help others learn from his past mistakes. You may recall Vick pleaded guilty in 2007 to federal conspiracy charges for his role in a dogfighting ring. He then served roughly two years in prison.
