The Democratic National Convention kicked off Monday with Michelle Obama as the highlight, giving a powerful 20-minute speech stating her case against Donald Trump.
The convention was held in Milwaukee but was mostly virtual, with Obama giving her speech via video among other speakers who spoke of progressive platforms. Actress Eva Longoria opened the convention with a speech of unity.
Michelle’s speech came at the end of the convention’s first night. Before her, four former top Republicans called on other Republicans to go against their party and get behind Joe Biden.
Bernie Sanders also said he would work with conservatives to defeat Trump.
“Donald Trump is the wrong president for our country. He has had more than enough time to prove that he can do the job, but he is clearly in over his head. He cannot meet this moment. He simply cannot be who we need him to be for us. It is what it is,’ the forever First Lady said.
“Whenever we look to this White House for some leadership or consolation or any semblance of steadiness, what we get instead is chaos, division, and a total and utter lack of empathy,” she added.
She also spoke of how her husband, Forever President Barack Obama, handled the Ebola virus vs. how Trump has failed at handling the coronavirus.
During the convention, the daughter of a Trump supporter who died from COVID, spoke and slammed Trump, blaming him for her father’s death. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo also leveraged attacks against Trump’s handling of the virus.
Mrs. Obama wrapped up her 20-minute speech urging everyone to vote for Joe Biden’s candidacy.
“If we have any hope of ending this chaos, we have got to vote for Joe Biden like our lives depend on it. I know Joe. He is a profoundly decent man, guided by faith. He was a terrific vice president. He knows what it takes to rescue an economy, beat back a pandemic, and lead our country. And he listens. He will tell the truth and trust science. He will make smart plans and manage a good team. And he will govern as someone who’s lived a life that the rest of us can recognize,” she said.
