Forever First Lady Michelle Obama has hit the ground running in her attempt to encourage Americans, both young and old, to register and vote.
Last month, Obama, alongside her “When We All Vote” campaign launched a Week of Action to help spike voter turnout, and now, the non-partisan, non-profit campaign is teaming up with YouTube, Lyft and ICM Partners to host the first-ever “Telethon for America” to further promote their efforts.
Created by comedian Ben Gleib, the Telethon, which is the first telethon in history with a goal of raising zero dollars, will feature a star-studded panel of sponsors, including Chelsea Handler, Jessica Alba, Lil Rel, Alyssa Milano and many more, for the sole purpose of taking pledges to increase voter turnout.
According to a press release, the live-streamed event will kick off on Monday, November 5th with “live performances, comedy, music, pre-taped segments and extensive interaction with our celebrity phone bank who will be calling OUT to fans and potential voters to ensure they will vote the day after the telecast.”
“This is a great opportunity to reach millions of voters the day before one of the most important elections of our lifetime to remind them that their vote is their voice and their vote is their power,” Kyle Lierman, CEO of When We All Vote, said. “Not only will we encourage voters to go vote and take their friends and families with them, but we’ll arm them with all the tools and information they need to cast their ballot.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Telethon will stream live on YouTube, Facebook Live and Comedy Central Online.
