The parents of the 15-year-old shooting suspect charged in this week’s deadly shooting at Michigan’s Oxford High School have been charged with four counts each of homicide involuntary manslaughter.
In a rare precedent, the 52nd District Court in Rochester Hills announced that charges against James and Jennifer Crumbley were filed earlier today.
In a news conference, prosecutor Karen McDonald alleged that James Crumbley bought the gun for his son four days before it was used in the school shooting.
McDonald also claimed there is evidence that Ethan Crumbley was with his father when he bought the gun later posted on social media about the purchase.
Jennifer Crumbley reportedly also posted about the gun on social media, calling it “his new Christmas present.”
“It’s been a devastating week for us. There are other individuals who contributed, … and it’s my intention to hold them accountable as well,” McDonald said.
Legal experts say prosecutors will try to show Crumbley’s parents were criminally negligent and contributed to or helped cause a dangerous situation.
