Michigan Wife Killed By Husband After Filing For Divorce Just Six Months Into The Marriage

A Michigan wife has been killed by her husband after just six months of marriage.

Investigators say Alicia Lofton was shot on August 17th with her own weapon, just one day after asking her husband, Marcus Lofton, for a divorce. When authorities arrived at a residence near Adams Street and Union Avenue in Grand Rapids, they discovered Alicia on the side of a home with multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Since Alicia had an active protection order against Marcus since May, he quickly became the number one suspect.

The couple married in February. However, things took a turn when Marcus turned violent. He had been arrested for assaulting Alicia and was ordered to stay away from her. However, on August 16th, she’d informed Marcus that she was filing for divorce and intended to sell their marital home, MLive confirms. During his interview with police, he confessed that on the day of Alicia’s death, he confronted her at the house, where he claims a fight broke out. Marcus admitted that he tried pistol whipping Alicia with her own pistol before the gun fired. She then fled to a bathroom and tried to escape through a window. Marcus followed, breaking down the door and shooting his wife several times before fleeing the scene. He has since been charged with open murder and felony firearm and held without bond.

While it seems that the details are clear in this case, another theory has run rampant on social media. Rumors have swirled that Alicia found out about Marcus’s supposed affair with another man. As the story goes, he felt she would expose his gay relationship, so he killed her to keep his secret. There have been no official reports of a same-sex affair, but that has not stopped the internet from pointing to Marcus’s sexuality as an additional motive.

No matter the circumstances, the situation is incredibly tragic. Hopefully, her family will get justice and closure in this case.
